Why you need a hobby

You wake up, do your morning routine, go to work, come back tired, spend the rest of your day doing small stuff so time can pass by and it’s time to get to bed, only to repeat the same thing the next day.

If the above paragraph describes your day, you need a hobby. Done right having a hobby will help to break out from the daily routine and will give you a side-goal to achieve at your free time.

Doing your favorite activity should not get you tired nor should you treat it like work. Even if your choice of hobby is to start your own business. You should treat it as the time you have for yourself and you have nothing to lose even if you are bad at it. Enjoy it!

How to choose your hobby?

Choosing a hobby should be simple. The first step is the testing phase, think what you would like to try. Maybe it’s something you saw in a movie or one of your friends is doing it and you are curious and want to try it. After you try a few things, one of them will do the “click” and it will absorb you like a sponge.

Don’t be afraid to try things, since you have nothing to lose. If the activity you want to try requires gear, before you spend your hard earned money on something that you might end up not liking. Instead, see if you can borrow the basics or rent them for a week to get a taste.

When you find what you like, it’s time to start learning. Learn as much as possible about your hobby. Knowledge is power and also the key if you later want to make money out of your hobby. You can get the necessary knowledge either by doing your own research and experimentation or by asking someone that already knows. You can combine those two for best results.

It’s also important to find people with the same passion as yours and create a separate circle from your normal one, which will consist from like-minded people, that might be new like you and begin that journey together or veterans, that your hobby, is their profession and can guide you on mastering the art.

At the end you will realize that sitting in your couch doing nothing will make you feel sick and you will want to spend even the one hour of free time that you have, doing what you love and trying to master your art. However, there are times that doing nothing can refresh our batteries, but only once every now and then.

To conclude, getting a hobby that you love doing, finding people that can help you with improving at that or learn with you. Will create another part for your life outside of the daily routine and will also give a new perspective on how to approach things as well as new experiences that might also impact your work-life in a positive way!
