I was playing with friends the other day and as we were trying to coordinate in order to win the match, one of them decided to have fun and knocked two of us down.
In this situation usually you might laugh or make a joke about it, after all games are for entertainment. But that was not the case as one raged and left from the party, the other was definitely not happy about what happened and at the end even the player who trolled felt bad.
It seems that as the games evolved most of them have focused on the multiplayer aspect of the game. With big online games like League of Legends, Counter-Strike, Fortnite etc. being developed around the idea of competitive play and esports, player’s mindset also changed and every match seems it’s not only about having fun.
Actually, i believe with the competitive spirit on the table, winning equals fun.
Most of the players stopped playing a game simply because they want to have fun and enjoy it with friends and instead they start competing in it even if they don’t aim to become a professionals.
Sure there are people that don’t like losing, thus they are going all in, even at boarding games. But we are not talking about them, we are talking about you, your friend and the squad you are playing your favourite games with.
Ranking system in games, esports and the competitive scene, has changed our mindsets over the years so much that we forgot why we are playing games.
In one of my previous articles I also referred to the toxic players that can destroy the experience of the players that joined simply to have fun, there for making them focus on how to play better and losing is not an option even if it means that you will not have fun at the end.
Ranking systems, players that can’t enjoy the game if they lose and toxic players who go all out on the chat has resulted in an era that the only way you can enjoy the game is to win the match and the next one and everyone after that. We forgot why we started playing in the first place.
When was your last time that you actually had fun playing a multiplayer game and what’s your opinion on the matter?
