Every day we are facing a range of choices most of them are simple, like what we will get for breakfast and others are more difficult.
There is no arguing that the choices we make, define us.
Yet, a lot of times, we are afraid of taking the matter into our own hands and we let others affect our judgment and make the choice for us.
I have discussed with a lot of college students, about what they are planning to do after they get their bachelor’s degree. It was a big surprise for me to learn that they don’t have a plan and most of the
times the reason was, that what they are studying was their parents choice. Of course, the parent wants what’s best for its child and acts based on that. But what the parent thinks is the best choice is not always the right one.
Everyone is having their own journey in life and at the end, each choice we make will impact our destination. In our journey, we are not alone, family, friends, colleagues are riding along with us, but each one of us has a different destination.
If other people are making decisions for you, the destination will not be the one that you dreamed off. And although your family and friends want what’s best for you, they don’t know what exactly is best for you. Only you know the destination that you will like to arrive at.
For that reason, it’s best to listen to the ones around you especially when it comes to taking big choices, but instead on acting on what they tell you, filter it. Listen to it as advise that will help you, to sometimes avoid bad decisions.
However, to reach your destination you have to make your choice and stand by it. Own it. All our decisions have consequences no matter how big or small they are. Be ready for the results either good or bad. At the end of the day, it’s your journey and you will reach that destination alone.
It’s better to make your choice and fail than let others make the choice for you. Because then, you will start asking “what if?” And you will start regretting.
